‘Baa Baa Land,’ a Movie About Sheep, May Actually Put You to Sleep

Most people involved with a film would feel sheepish to learn people fell asleep during it. But when the only stars of your film are actual sheep, that’s exactly what you have in mind.

Such is the case for the American-financed, British-made film “Baa Baa Land” (yes, “Baa Baa Land”) — an eight-hour saga premiering tonight at the Prince Charles Cinema in London, as well as on Calm’s social media channels. Calm.com is a California-based meditation app which produced the film.

The premiere will also feature a five-minute shortened version of the film, which you can watch above and here.

So, what is the movie actually about? Alex Tew, “Baa Baa Land’s” executive producer and co-founder of Calm, calls the film “the ultimate insomnia cure.” There’s nothing more to it than sheep going “baaa” in a field, as nature intended.

Why make it? Press materials on the Calm website call the film “a tonic for the soul” and producers poke fun at the whole idea. “Dullest movie ever? We hope so:..”

The punny title has no affiliation with “La La Land,” which won multiple Oscars earlier this year, though the film’s poster does make reference to one of its iconic songs, cheekily saying “Here’s to the ones who dream … of sheep.”

And this may not be the last star turn for these sheep.

“We’re in discussion about U.S. and wider distribution and in talks with an American TV channel,” Michael Acton Smith, another executive producer and Calm’s other co-founder, says on its website. “We don’t expect it to break box-office records but believe there is at least a niche audience for it.”

If you plan to watch the film, sit baaaack and relax.
