You may love your sparkly, glitter iPhone case right now — but it might be safest to use a different one.
That’s because these MixBin Electronics products are giving consumers skin irritation and burns as a result of liquid and glitter seeping from the cases, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The company recalled the products Monday — about 263,000 in the U.S., 11,400 in Canada and 400 in Mexico — and will be offering refunds.
In the U.S., 19 reports of skin irritation or chemical burns have come in, making up most of the 24 cases reported globally. Several serious incidents include one consumer who reported being permanently scarred due to a chemical burn, while someone else claimed chemical burns in addition to swelling on her upper body, leg, face, neck, chest and hands.
The cases in question are for the iPhone 6, 6s and 7 models made in China. The plastic case includes liquid and glitter, are about 5.5 inches by 2.75 inches and are offered in numerous styles and colors. From October 2015 through June 2017, retailers like Amazon, Tory Burch and Victoria’s Secret carried the recalled models in stores and online. They cost anywhere from $15 to $65.
People are encouraged ask MixBin for a complete refund and to not use the cases in question.
