When you think of healthy eaters, this is where your mind should go: Naples, Florida. At least, that’s what its residents think.
Specifically, 75.3 percent of inhabitants of Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island all said “yes” when asked “Did you eat healthy all day yesterday?” as part of a recently published Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index report, Live Science says. The poll of more than 350,000 adults in the U.S. was conducted over the phone from Jan. 2, 2015 to Dec. 30, 2016.
Overall, 63.2 percent of U.S. adults said they ate healthy the day before (the lowest level found in these self-reported results) compared to 67.7 percent in 2010 (its peak). That translates to a 10 million-person decrease since then.
Lubbock, Texas was the lowest on the list with only 53.8 percent of its residents claiming to have eaten healthy the day before. California was a particularly healthy state, rounding out 10 out of the top 25 communities for healthy eating.
The research found a correlation between the cities with the healthiest eaters and rates of certain health conditions in those same locales. Obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure rates in cities with healthier eaters weren’t as high compared to cities where people didn’t eat healthy the day before.
