LONDON (AP) — Britain’s High Court has denied a bid by a terminally ill man to challenge the law on assisted suicide, ruling that the issue was already considered in recent years and does not merit further analysis.
In January, lawyers for Noel Conway, 67, who suffers from a degenerative muscle-wasting disease, began a judicial review to challenge laws that prohibit people from actively helping others to die.
In a decision on Thursday, the court said it would be “institutionally inappropriate” to review Britain’s laws that ban assisted dying after a 2014 Supreme Court decision rejected a similar appeal from a British man with locked-in syndrome.
Conway said in a statement that he was “very disappointed” with the ruling but that he would “not be deterred” and would be appealing the decision.
