If you want to keep your best employees, don’t offer telework. Offer them training and the chance to develop their careers instead, local business executives say.
About 26 percent of 161 CEOs, C-suite officers and directors surveyed said the best way to keep employees — apart from competitive pay and good health insurance, of course — is to offer opportunities for training and career development, according to a new WBJ/Colliers Greater Washington Business Confidence Survey.
Another 22 percent said flexible schedules are the key, while 21 percent said employers need to promote a positive workplace environment. Just 5 percent said the ability to work from home or another remote location is vital to retention (executives were allowed to pick more than one).
The survey, in the field from Jan. 31 to Feb. 17, was conducted by McGinn and Co. and Repass Research Strategic Consulting.
