Caravan – Tiny House Hotel
Caravan is comprised of six tiny houses circled around a covered outdoor fire pit and outdoor seating area within a gated lot in the heart of the trendy Alberta Arts District. While parents can bring kids to Caravan, as several of the houses sleep four or five, given its location on Alberta Street, lined with upscale eateries, bars and boutiques, it’s best for a couples-only or solo getaway. The tiny houses range in size, but all encompass 120 to 170 square feet. They’re built by local builders and each have their own personality. Inside each house, you’ll find fun, funky and creative design elements. Plus, each tiny house offers a flush toilet and hot shower, electric heat, a sitting area, sleeping areas and a kitchen equipped with a sink, a hot plate or stove top, a microwave, a minifridge and cooking utensils.
The tiny houses are insulated, but since Caravan is in the heart of a busy urban area, there is some noise pollution. Earplugs are provided, as well as a noise machine in each tiny house. What’s more, in the communal outdoor space, guests have all the necessary supplies to make a fire in the fire pit and roast s’mores, including gluten-free graham crackers and vegan marshmallows. The tiny houses at Caravan are popular, especially on weekends (when there’s a two-night minimum), so be sure to book well in advance if you want to pick your favorite. Tiny Digs Hotel
Located in the hip Kerns neighborhood near East Burnside in Portland, the Tiny Digs Hotel is a similar collection of tiny houses. Like Caravan, the tiny houses at Tiny Digs are fully furnished and have flush toilets, air and heating. Unlike Caravan, all the tiny houses at the Tiny Digs Hotel feature a small deck, allowing guests to enjoy the ambiance of the neighborhood while perched in their compact accommodations.
When complete, the Tiny Digs Hotel will include 13 tiny custom-built houses. Some units are pet-friendly, and all are in easy walking distance of pubs, nightlife and some of Portland’s hippest restaurants and bars. Each of the six current tiny houses available has its own vibe. During their stay, guests will feel like they’re staying on a farm, by the beach, in a wooded cabin or in a modern enclave. Rentals start around $150 per night.
Mt. Hood Tiny House Village
If the city life isn’t for you, and you’d rather stay in a mountain setting, the Mt. Hood Tiny House Village is a short drive from downtown Portland. Part of the Mt. Hood Village, located about one hour from downtown, the tiny house village features five tiny houses between 150 to 225 square feet. Each tiny house has its own personality, from cozy to country chic. Each house is fully furnished and are designed by Tumbleweed homes. Guests enjoying a tiny house overnight at Mt. Hood Village are close to hiking and mountain biking at Mt. Hood in summer, and skiing at Mt. Hood Meadows and Timberline in winter. Houses start around $129 per night at Mt. Hood Village.
The Rustic Modern Tiny House
Want to try a tiny house without the amenities (and neighbors) of a hotel? Consider a tiny house Airbnb rental. Portland also offers its share of Airbnb rentals in the tiny house space. The Rustic Modern Tiny House has been seen on the TV show “Tiny House Nation.” Built by its owners in true Portland DIY-style, this house has fun amenities and books quickly. Nightly rates start at $130.

The Tiny House on a Tiny Volcano
The Tiny House on a Tiny Volcano offers an alternative accommodation option located near Mount Tabor Park and the popular Hawthorne District. Slightly larger than most tiny houses at 440 square feet, the house is the rental to book if you’re itching for a bit more space. Nightly rates start at $109, and the property boasts a cozy loft, a full kitchen and other eclectic features.
