Barbie’s Hello Dreamhouse had a special holiday message for families this season — though not exactly the one intended: Error Code 18, reports Mashable.
The message came up for families on Christmas Day, with many resorting to Twitter (ticker: TWTR) to air their concerns. While one user claims the instruction manual says “Error Code 18” means there’s a wireless network issue, the steps to fix it didn’t work.
The toy from Mattel ( MAT) is a high-tech leap for the historic brand and is supposed to work via voice commands. This way, children can instruct the house to turn the lights on, open doors and more.
“Today, a small number of users are experiencing service issues due to the extremely high volume of demand we’ve seen with the Barbie Hello Dreamhouse,” the company that created the Hello Dreamhouse technology, ToyTalk, said in a statement to customers. “Our engineers have identified and resolved many of these issues, however intermittent problems may still exist as we continue to increase capacity.” The company also apologized for the malfunction.
Mattel stock is up nearly 5 percent this year, although it’s been outperformed by the broader Nasdaq composite, which is up 10 percent.
While not everyone complained on Twitter, grievances continued beyond Christmas morning, along with other error codes.

One user tweeted, however, thanked the company, stating that Error 18 eventually disappeared.
