U.S. News Twitter Chat: Get Ready for the PSAT

U.S. News Education will host a Twitter chat to help high schoolers and their parents prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT — the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Most students will take the exam on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Panelists will discuss the best ways to prepare for the PSAT/NMSQT and the exam’s role in the college application process, among other topics.

Who: U.S. News Education will moderate a panel of experts, including:

@OfficialSAT, representatives of The College Board, the organization behind the exam
@Kaplan SAT/ACT, Lee Weiss, vice president of college admissions programs, Kaplan Test Prep
@rawolfson, Ross Wolfson, school counseling department chairman at Westborough High School in Massachusetts
@FSabens, Franciene Sabens, a school counselor at Chester High School in Illinois

What: A Twitter chat focusing on what families need to know and prep for the PSAT/NMSQT.

Where: Hop into the conversation using the hashtag #PSATPrep.

When: 2:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016

Why: Students can become familiar with the SAT that many colleges require or consider for admissions by taking the PSAT. And families can use students’ scores on the PSAT/NMSQT to guide test prep for the later exam. Additionally, strong performance on the PSAT/NMSQT can lead to a prestigious National Merit Scholarship, as the exam is also the qualifying test for the award. But families should be aware of recent changes to the exam, including to its length.
