WASHINGTON — Funeral services will be held Tuesday for the Prince William County police officer who died in the line of duty during her first day on the job, and a huge turnout is expected.
On Saturday, Officer Ashley Guindon responded to a domestic disturbance call inside the northern Virginia home of a Pentagon worker. According to police, Army Staff Sgt. Ronald Hamilton opened fire as Guindon arrived at his door, killing her and wounding two other officers.
Hamilton and his wife Crystal had been arguing all day, but it escalated once she called 911. Hamilton fatally shot his wife and then fired at the arriving officers, police say. He eventually surrendered.
According to an affidavit filed Monday in General District Court in Prince William County, “The accused made statements to law enforcement officers stating that he shot his wife and the police officers.”
The viewing and funeral are both open to the public. But it should be noted that because of space limitations, priority will be given to fellow law enforcement and government officials.
Prince William County will provide a live stream of the funeral on its YouTube page.
