WASHINGTON (AP) — It’s been a busy day in Cuba for District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser, who met with Cuban government officials and visited the University of Havana.
The Democratic mayor is in Cuba on a trade mission with officials from Maryland and Virginia. The group is touting the benefits of doing business with the Washington region now that the U.S. has restored diplomatic ties with Cuba. Its first meeting on Monday was with Cuba’s foreign trade minister, Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz.
Bowser then met with the mayor of Havana and Cuba’s tourism minister. One of the ideas they discussed was for public schools and universities in the District and Cuba to work together on foreign-exchange programs.
