WASHINGTON — Sprint Tuesday introduced its “All-in” plan, which offers unlimited talk, text and data at $60, plus $20 to lease phones such as the iPhone 6 and Samsung’s Galaxy S6.
“If you went to a restaurant that advertised a cheeseburger for 99-cents, but when you show up, they said it’s an extra $2 for the bun or $1 for lettuce, you would feel misled. Yet, that’s what the industry has been doing with its wireless plans. Why can’t everyone just advertise the full price of both the plan and the smartphone – an All-In plan? That was the idea behind what we’ve created,” Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure said, in a news release.
For those looking to sign up for Sprint’s iPhone plan, it will be a hike of $10 per month, CNET reports.
The new plan eliminates Sprint’s $50 plan for iPhones, although existing customers will be grandfathered in.
The No. 3 cellular carrier in the U.S. is trying to narrow the gap with its larger rivals by trying to attract cellphone users who dislike complex plans, Reuters reports.
Soccer superstar David Beckham has been hired to help pitch the new program, with ads running during the U.S. match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup on Tuesday night.
