Where did Washington Business Journal readers swarm in 2014? To start, big changes at retail centers and a cultural institution, the planned closure of a beloved College Park pizza place and the most interesting company in Greater Washington.
Oh, and shipping container apartments in Brookland.
These are the subjects of some of the most-read stories on our website in 2014.
The aggressive turnaround tactics at Computer Sciences Corp. were of particular interest, as three of the top 10 most-read stories of the year concerned the Falls Church-based IT services company with a bevy of government clients. Senior staff writer Jill Aitoro dug into why this was of such interest earlier this month.
Also making multiple appearances: Springfield Town Center. Readers wanted to know what tenants were going into the rebranded Springfield Mall, what they could buy, what the food court would look like and where they could watch their overpriced 3-D movies. The center opened in October, just in time for some holiday shopping.

A January post on plans to break ground on the redevelopment of Landmark Mall (it still hasn’t happened) was our second most-read story of the year, outpacing a post looking into the planned expansion of the Kennedy Center.
Yes, more were interested in the redevelopment plans for an aging Alexandria mall than of a substantial extension of our region’s crown jewel for performing arts. But, hey, we do love our shopping.
Nothing this year topped a September post offering an up-close look in and around Brookland’s finished shipping container apartments. The unique structure exceeded our expectations, and it appears yours as well.
Also tipping the scales in 2014: The November announcement that Ratsie’s in College Park would be replaced by Nando’s Peri-Peri and the sad story of Rand Construction President Jon Couch dying in a September plane crash.
