Police focus on teen drug activity after student deaths

WOODBRIDGE, Va. – There are more police patrols around Woodbridge High
School, nearly a month after 16-year-old Brenden Wilson was shot and killed.

It marked the second time a Woodbridge High School student was killed in a
drug-related incident in a little more than a year, and narcotics authorities
now have a renewed focus on young people.

“We are certainly paying more attention to this specific issue, which is drug
dealing amongst teenagers,” says Prince William County Police Chief Steve
Hudson.

“We pour a lot of resources into narcotics investigations.”

Hudson calls the killings “tragic” but he insists they are not indicative of
any broad spike in crime.

He puts the blame on dangers associated with illegal drugs.

“That, unfortunately in both of these cases, mushroomed into violence because
of the people they were dealing with,” says Hudson.
