Tech contractor NCI Inc. is buying Bethesda-based Computech, the professional services company, for $56 million, Reston-based NCI announced in a press release late Tuesday.
“The acquisition of Computech is in line with NCI’s growth strategy, which calls for the development of new customers and service offerings both organically and through mergers and acquisitions,” said Brian J. Clark, NCI’s president.
NCI’s business is primarily focused on cybersecurity and logistics services, mostly servicing defense agencies.
With the Computech purchase, Clark told The Washington Pos t, NCI is aiming to move beyond defense work and add what Computech brings to the table — software operations, big-data analysis and more for civilian government agencies including the IRS and the Federal Communications Commission.
When everything is buttoned up, Clark told The Post, federal civilian work will make up 40 percent of NCI’s business. Currently, it’s 25 percent.
