Suicide bombing kills more than 50, wounds 100

LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — Police in Pakistan say a suicide bomber has detonated explosives near a checkpoint at the country’s eastern border with India, killing more than 50 people.

It happened as hundreds of people were returning from a military parade on the outskirts of Lahore.

The provincial police chief says the death toll is likely to rise because more than 100 people were wounded, with several in critical condition. He says police had intelligence reports in advance that there could be a blast in the city.

Both the Pakistani and the Indian military conduct daily parades and flag-flying ceremonies on their respective sides of the border. The events draw crowds of hundreds.
