BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland’s eight U.S. representatives are vying to keep their seats as voters go to the polls.
Tuesday marks the first re-election bid by Democrat John Delaney in the 6th District. His race against Republican former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino will test Delaney’s staying power in a district the GOP held for 20 years before redistricting shifted the balance toward the Democrats in 2012.
Delaney combines a moderate stance on fiscal issues with a liberal approach to social ones. Bongino offers a conservative platform of lower taxes, a balanced budget, school choice vouchers and opposition to the 2010 federal health care law.
Maryland’s other House members include six Democrats and one Republican, Andy Harris, whose 1st District includes the Eastern Shore. None of them is believed to be at risk.
