Caps fan fighting cancer gets Backstrom’s all access pass

WASHINGTON – It was a big night for the Capitals and an even bigger night for
one of their biggest fans — a 12 year old fighting bone cancer asked the Make-
A-Wish Foundation to grant his all access pass to the Caps.

It’s not Sam Becker’s first Capitals game and it likely wont be his last. But
this is one he’ll never forget.

“Every game I go to, it goes into overtime,” Becker says.

Not only that, but he got to ride in a limo with his family to the game against
the Islanders and was handed a jersey
with his name on the back from his favorite player, Nicklas Backstrom.

“Hopefully he can get a smile on his face watching his favorite team,” Backstrom
says.

When crafting his ultimate Caps day, Becker got to pick the game he wanted to
attend. So when he saw there was a game on his 12th birthday, his father Aaron
Becker says he lit up.

“He has been through a lot and he really deserves a day when he can smile and
not worry about the next doctor’s appointment or whatever is next. It’s really
nice,” Becker says.

His son was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, last September.

“He went through 18 rounds of
chemotherapy in the winter. And then had major surgery in the to take the tumor
out. He’s been recovering slowing from surgeries in February,” he says.

Now he’s cancer free and he can take a break from worrying about the big stuff
to focus on something more fun.

“I get to ride the Zamboni and I get to see the Caps play,” Becker says.
