Annapolis girl hopes America will hear her sing Sunday

WASHINGTON — A seven-year-old girl from Annapolis, Maryland hopes to make her national debut this weekend.

“I got into singing classes and stuff and then I did so much now I love it,” says Vivien Kaplan.

Recently, Kaplan stumbled upon Disney’s Sing Your Heart Out Competition and made a last minute submission. Now she is one of 10 finalists competing for some prime time airtime this weekend.

Her mom, Melanie Loughry, says from the age of two her daughter has been singing along with musicals and is not shy when it comes to performing.

The second grader has become somewhat of a star, for making it this far in the competition. “As more people in town learn about the contest, it has gotten more exciting for her,” Loughry says.

Recently, Vivien was flown to Los Angeles where she and the other finalists were filmed. Now voting is underway on the contest’s website, and the winner will see their version of the song aired during a Kohl’s commercial after the American Music Awards which airs Sunday.

Kaplan hopes it will be her.

“I wanna be the grand finalist ’cause it would be like a really big thing for me and I’d be really happy,” she says.

You can vote for Vivien by visiting the contest’s website.
