Va. man facing more charges in HIV exposure case

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) — Police say a Virginia man arrested on charges of having unprotected sex with a Maryland woman without telling her he was HIV-positive is now facing additional charges after a second victim came forward.

Daniel Cleaves of Richmond was previously arrested on seven charges of transferring HIV to a woman after meeting her at a downtown Bethesda bar in July. Police said the 28-year-old Cleaves had unprotected sex with her seven times over a three-day period.

On Friday, police in Montgomery County said Cleaves has been charged with two additional counts of knowingly exposing a person to the HIV virus. Police say a second victim came forward, resulting in additional charges.

Cleaves did not appear to have a listed telephone number, and no attorney is listed for him in court records.
