WASHINGTON – Mark Warner and Ed Gillespie will face off for their first televised debate tonight and will take questions from “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd.
Warner is seeking his second term representing Virginia in the U.S. Senate and faces Republican challenger Ed Gillespie, who previously served as chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Warner, a Democrat, is a former governor of Virginia.
The two also debated Monday in an event organized by the the Roanoke Chamber of Commerce.
Tuesday’s debate was sponsored by the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce and will air at 7 p.m. on NBC4, the first of two televised debates between the Gillespie and Warner.
A Wason Center for Public Policy poll released Tuesday morning shows Warner leading Gillespie 51 to 39 percent among likely voters with a margin of error of +/-3.5 percent.
Warner was heavily favored by independent voters in addition to Democrats, according to the poll results.
