DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) — Prince George’s County fire officials say firefighters rescued an unconscious man from a burning District Heights home, and his condition improved after he was treated at a hospital.
A passer-by reported the fire around 7:45 p.m. Friday night. Volunteer firefighters were the first to arrive and entered the home. They found an unconscious man and got him out quickly. He was treated in the front yard by paramedics and taken to a trauma center in critical condition.
Fire officials say the man regained consciousness at the trauma center and was breathing on his own, and his condition was upgraded to fair.
The fire was extinguished within minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage to the home is estimated at $75,000.
