Troy ends losing skid, beats New Mexico St. 41-24

TROY, Ala. (AP) — Chandler Worthy returned a kickoff for a touchdown, caught a pass for another and Troy forced four turnovers, ending its losing streak 41-24 against New Mexico State on Saturday.

Troy (1-5, 1-1 Sun Belt) jumped out 10-0 when Brandon Silvers capped a 12-play, 85-yard game-opening drive with a TD run, and Ryan Kay followed with a 29-yard field goal. Kay also hit from 41.

The Trojans racked up 571 yards of offense and won for the first time this season after 24-year coach Larry Blakeney announced that he’ll retire when the season ends.

The Aggies (2-5, 1-2) closed to 10-7 when Larry Rose III broke away for a 53-yard run, a career-long for the freshman.

But Worthy took the ensuing kickoff 89 yards to put Troy back up by 10.

Jordan Chunn had second-half touchdown runs of 2 and 18 yards. Jamal Stadom had two sacks and recovered two fumbles.
