Stocks gain…Oil prices rise… Facebook wants DEA to end fake profile pages

NEW YORK (AP) — Stock indexes are closing out a wild week with a big gain after another turbulent session today. The Dow Jones industrial average jumped 263 points, or 1.6 percent, to 16,380. The Dow was coming off six straight losses and ended the week down 1 percent. The Standard & Poor’s 500 rose 24 points, or 1.3 percent, to 1,886. The Nasdaq rose 41 points, or 1 percent, to 4,258.

NEW YORK (AP) — Oil prices are up slightly today but are still down 4 percent for the week on prospects of lower demand from a slowing global economy and high supplies. Benchmark U.S. crude rose 5 cents to close at $82.75 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude, a benchmark for international oils, rose 34 cents to close at $86.16 on the ICE Futures exchange in London.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Facebook wants the Drug Enforcement Administration to confirm that it has stopped operating any fake profile pages on the social network. Facebook’s chief security officer says law enforcement agencies are held to the same community standards as civilian users. Those standards include bans on fake profiles.

NEW YORK (AP) — Casino operator Caesars Entertainment says it’s prepared to start formal discussions with some of its bank lenders as it works to reduce its debt. Caesars is working to reduce leverage and revamp its capital structure. In September, the Las Vegas company started negotiations with other creditors. Caesars runs 50 casinos in 13 U.S. states and five other countries.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A federal bankruptcy court judge is voiding the labor contract at Atlantic City’s Trump Taj Mahal casino. The judge has granted a request by Trump Entertainment Resorts to terminate its contract with the union. The company and billionaire investor Carl Icahn have said the casino couldn’t survive without shedding costly pension and health care obligations.
