Southern U beats Alabama A&M 35-34 in comeback

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Austin Howard threw for two touchdowns and Malcom Crockett scored the winning TD on a 1-yard run Saturday in Southern University’s 35-34 comeback win over Alabama A&M.

Trailing 34-28 in the fourth quarter, Howard put together a nine play, 44-yard drive culminating with Crockett’s TD run with 51 seconds to play.

Howard was 17 of 41 for 265 yards, including an interception and fourth-quarter TD strikes of 79 yards to Willie Quinn and 68 yards to Justin Morgan. Quinn had seven catches for 132 yards.

Lenard Tillery scored on runs of 6 and 13 yards for Southern (4-3, 3-1 Southwestern) and gained 93 yards on 16 carries

Jaymason Lee threw for three touchdowns for Alabama A&M (2-5, 1-3), including a 25 yarder to Montaurius Smith, and an 18-yarder and a 44-yarder to Jonathan Dorsey. Brandon Eldemire scored on a 2-yard run for a 24-14 halftime lead.
