Roberts passes Yale to 51-13 win over Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) — Morgan Roberts tied a school record with five touchdown passes and Yale dominated Cornell 51-13 in both teams’ Ivy League opener on Saturday.

Tyler Varga, who ran for five touchdowns in an overtime upset of Army last weekend, scored first for the Bulldogs (3-0, 1-0) against the Big Red (0-3, 0-1) on a 6-yard run, but after that Roberts was the star. Playing three quarters, he completed 26 of 30 passes for a school-record 86.6 completion percentage and 312 yards, throwing two scores each to Deon Randall and Grant Wallace and another to Robert Clemons III. It was the first time a Yale quarterback had thrown for five touchdowns since 2005.

Randall made 11 catches for 128 yards and Wallace six for 106. Everett Johnson had Yale’s other TD on a 34-yard run with Yale finishing with a 585-189 advantage in total offense.

Cornell’s scores came on James White’s 14-yard fumble return and James Few’s 6-yard pass to Luke Hagy.
