WASHINGTON — People who work at the Pentagon could be targeted by the Islamic State terrorist group or other terror groups, a memo from the Pentagon Force Protection Agency warns.
The agency that’s the internal security agency for the Pentagon tells the Military Times it’s not based on a specific threat.
Security managers have been told to remind employees about how they can avoid standing out to terrorists.
Members of the Islamic State terrorist group could use knives, guns or explosives.
“Recent threats, revealed through various intelligence and law enforcement sources, indicate that terrorists, directed or inspired by the Islamic States of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), view members of U.S. military members and law enforcement officers as legitimate targets for attacks,” says a memo first obtained by The Washington Times.
Pentagon workers are told to be careful about sharing personal information on social media and not to post anything “opposing terrorist groups or organizations.”
The memo also says Pentagon workers should conceal military or law enforcement badges while in public.
