WASHINGTON — The merger of Commonwealth Orthopaedics and OrthoVirginia will create Virginia’s largest orthopedic specialty group practice.
Commonwealth Orthopaedics has 10 offices in Northern Virginia, while OrthoVirginia has 11 locations in the greater Richmond, Prince George County, Kilmarnock and Farmville areas.
The Jan. 1 merger will create a practice with 82 physicians, 21 office locations, an MRI facility and multiple physical and occupational therapy clinics and outpatient surgery centers, according to a news release from the companies.
The companies say except for Commonwealth’s name change to OrthoVirginia, patients should not notice any changes in day-to-day operations.
Dr. David Miller, president of OrthoVirginia, calls the merger good news for patients.
“It will improve the delivery of orthopedic care in Virginia, provide a stronger network of high-quality orthopedic physicians and position both organizations for future success in a rapidly changing healthcare environment,” Miller said, in a news release.
“Our organizations will share knowledge and best practices to improve quality, safety and outcomes,” said Dr. Mark Madden, chairman of Commonwealth Orthopaedics.
