WASHINGTON — We’ve reached the unofficial halfway point of the college football season, and while some of the landscape looks like we expected, much of it has been surprising. Not a single one of our prognosticators had either Mississippi team in their final four, while nearly everyone had Alabama, which only this week has sneaked back into the top four in the AP rankings.
Any team inside the top eight is already knocking on the door and has a reasonable chance of getting in without too much help from other teams in front of them. But the field is still wide open, and any number of other schools can still dream the impossible dream to perhaps play for the national title.
