Bryant ends Bucknell unbeaten streak 34-15

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) — Ricardo McCray ran for 142 yards and three touchdowns — one a 96-yarder from scrimmage — as Bryant snapped Bucknell’s perfect start to the season 34-15 on Saturday.

Bryant (4-1) burned Bucknell (4-1) with several big plays and opportunistic defense. Sam Sammons scored on a 55-yard fake punt, Dalton Easton passed for just 148 yards with 73 coming on a TD hookup with Chard Ward. Bison quarterback RJ Nitti was intercepted three times, all in the first half, and sacked five times.

Bucknell (4-1) trailed 27-0 at the half, but CJ Williams scored from the 6 and the 1 after halftime.

Defensive lineman Jeff Covitz, who led the Northeast conference in tackles for a loss and sacks last season, was in on eight tackles Saturday, including four sacks of Nitti.

The Bulldogs, 5-7 last season, scored on back-to-back big-play drives — Easton’s 73-yarder to Ward and Sammons’ 55-yard punt fake.
