KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — Marcus Fuller threw a scoring pass and Grant Senne kicked a 26-yard field goal Saturday to help Brown hold off Rhode Island 20-13 and retain possession of the Governor’s Cup.
Rhode Island (0-5, 0-2 Colonial) had the ball with 1:55 to play, but lost it on downs and time expired on their ensuing possession.
Fuller was 20 of 30 for 169 yards passing, including a 7-yard TD pass to Stian Romberg. Andrew Coke put the Bears (1-2, 1-1 Ivy) up 17-7 with a 2-yard TD run in the third quarter.
Rhode Island’s Mack Lowrie was 21 of 35 for 229 yards and a 39-yard TD pass to Harold Cooper. Lowrie also scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter to pull the Rams within four points.
That’s when the Bears put together a key 19-play, 70-yard drive ending with Senne’s field goal, his second of the game.
The Bears held the Rams to 3 yards rushing.
