HOPEWELL, Va. (AP) — Court documents say a man killed by Hopewell police told officers that he killed his wife and wanted to commit suicide.
Media outlets report that Virginia State Police gave details of the officer-involved shooting in a search warrant affidavit.
Gary Lee was fatally shot Oct. 20 after an encounter with Hopewell police. The affidavit said Lee pointed what the officers believed to be a gun in their direction following attempted negotiations.
State police filed the affidavit in Colonial Heights Circuit Court to obtain a warrant to search a room at the motel where 54-year-old Gary Lee lived. Police found the body of Lee’s wife, 53-year-old Carol E. Lee, in the room.
Police haven’t said how Carol Lee died.
The investigation is continuing.
