DRY FORK, Va. (AP) — A state agency spokeswoman says Pittsylvania County could face civil penalties if officials don’t address problems at the county’s animal shelter.
Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services spokeswoman Elaine Lidholm tells The Danville Register & Bee (http://bit.ly/1Aq2Z4j ) that county officials must either fix the problems or move to construct a new facility.
State inspectors found the shelter out of compliance with state regulations during an inspection in April. Deficiencies included confining small dogs in enclosures that failed to protect them from escape and/or injury.
Media outlets report that the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors voted last week to spend $30,000 for a study to examine the costs of building a new shelter.
