CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Police investigating the disappearance of a University of Virginia student say they searched an apartment of a man they believe was with her the night she went missing but did not have enough information to arrest or detain him.

In an emotional appeal Friday, Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo asked anyone who might have seen Hannah Graham and the man early Sept. 13 in the Downtown Mall to contact authorities.

Longo says police talked to who they believe is that man during their search of an apartment earlier Friday.

Asked if he believed the 18-year-old Graham was still alive, Longo said he was “hopeful.”

Longo says police have received more than 400 tips.
