MEXICO CITY (AP) — Authorities in central Mexico are looking for a police chief who they allege ordered an attack on a journalist who was beaten in her newsroom by three men.
Guanajuato state prosecutors say in a statement Thursday that they have detained two of the suspects in last week’s assault on Karla Silva, a reporter for El Heraldo de Leon.
They say Nicasio Aguirre, the police chief in the city of Silao, ordered the attack and he is considered a fugitive.
Silva covers the industrial city of Silao for the daily newspaper based in the neighboring city of Leon.
The Committee to Protect Journalist says Silva had written several articles pointing out the lack of transparency in Silao’s government and an increase in crime.
