WASHINGTON (AP) — A flood watch has been issued for the District of Columbia, northern Virginia, Baltimore and other parts of Maryland.
The National Weather Service issued the watch early Wednesday morning. It will be in effect Wednesday evening through late into the night.
Counties under the watch in Maryland include Montgomery, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, Harford and Howard.
The National Weather Service says low pressure approaching from the southern Atlantic states will cause heavy rain across those counties, the District and northern Virginia starting late in the afternoon. Up to 2 inches with locally higher amounts are expected by early Thursday.
The agency says locally heavy rain will cause flooding to low-lying areas, especially urban areas.
Officials warn drivers to never cross flooded roads.
