Chain-reaction crash leaves 9 injured in Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Nine people are injured after a chain-reaction crash in Frederick when the driver of a utility van drove through a red light.

The Frederick News-Post (http://bit.ly/1oazvSo ) reports the crash happened Saturday morning on Maryland Route 26 about 11:30 a.m. Maryland State Police say the driver of the van hit a truck stopped at the intersection. That started a chain-reaction crash that included six cars.

Trooper Dan Rishell says speed appears to be a factor in the crash. He says the driver of the utility van also appeared to be texting at the time of the crash.

The van driver and eight other people were taken to hospitals. Others refused medical treatment.
