WHAT’S AT STAKE
Stanford tries to regroup from a frustrating 13-10 home loss to Southern California last week before a series of difficult Pac-12 road games. Army aims to start 2-0 under new coach Jeff Monken.
KEY MATCHUP
Army offense vs. Stanford defense. Army’s tricky triple-option offense gave Stanford trouble during the first half of the Cardinal’s 34-20 win at West Point this season. Monken has given the Black Knights’ triple-option another twist. Army ran for 341 yards in a 47-39 victory against Buffalo in its opener, while Stanford’s reconstructed defense allowed 156 yards rushing to USC last week.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Army: RB Larry Dixon. The senior ran for a career-high 174 yards and two touchdowns on just 20 carries in Army’s season-opening win. It was the eighth time he has topped 100 yards rushing.
Stanford: DE Henry Anderson. He missed six games after injuring a knee against Army last season and will play a critical role on the defensive line defending the triple-option. Anderson also is one of Stanford’s best returning pass rushers. He has one sack in the first two games.
