Ex-priest serving embezzlement sentence dies

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A former Roman Catholic priest convicted of embezzling from two rural parishes has died in prison.

Chiles Funeral Home in Richmond says on its website that 58-year-old Rodney Rodis died Aug. 5.

The Richmond Times- Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1BDCUly) reports no cause of death was available and at the request of the family, no death notice was provided.

Rodis was found guilty in January 2009 in Louisa Circuit Court of embezzling two Louisa County parishes of $432,000 while living a double life as a married man. According to court testimony, Rodis said he stole the money to help his family and others in his native Philippines.
