WASHINGTON — A woman who sued the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control will get a settlement of more than $200,000.
Attorney General Mark R. Herring announced in a statement Wednesday night taht Elizabeth Daly, who sued several ABC agents for $40 million, will receive $212,500 and a letter from the ABC Board explaining the circumstances of her arrest for presentation to any future employers.
After the settlement, Herring said in a statement that the his goal was to “reach a resolution that is just and fair for all parties,” and that “after careful consideration of the potentially significant costs of taking this case to trial, I believe we have reached such an outcome.”
The statement added that the settlement does not constitute an admission of any wrongdoing by anyone.
On April 11, 2013, Daly, then 20, was arrested after grazing two plainclothes ABC agents with her SUV when they confronted her, thinking that she was buying beer illegally. She wasn’t, and claimed that she drove off because she was afraid, saying that the officers hadn’t identified themselves and one pulled a gun.
