Staunton movie theater closing

STAUNTON, Va. (AP) — One of two independently run movie theaters in downtown Staunton is closing at the end of the month.

Dixie Theatre operator Adam Greenbaum tells The News Leader (http://bit.ly/1ysPZM7) that lagging attendance and higher expenses prompted the decision.

The building has been owned for the past five years by the Staunton Performing Arts Center.

Arts center board president Tom Cook says the board will meet next week to discuss plans for the building. The building was scheduled to close in 2009 when Greenbaum took over the theater.

Another theater that Greenbaum runs in Staunton will remain open.
