Former Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance says on Twitter that his father Bob, a respected Scottish golf coach who had been fighting cancer, has died. He was 82.
Torrance posted a message Friday saying “sad day my dad just passed away peacefully in his sleep.”
Bob Torrance built Padraig Harrington’s swing before his 2007 victory at Carnoustie in the British Open. Harrington also won the claret jug at Royal Birkdale in 2008.
Darren Clarke, who won the British Open in 2011, says on Twitter “very sad news about Bob Torrance … I would not be where I am today without Bob.”
