BALTIMORE (AP) — Court documents indicate that a change of ownership is in the works for the former Sparrows Point steel mill property in Baltimore.
Attorneys said in a letter filed in federal court this week that arrangements are being made to sell a significant portion of the property to an unnamed local investment group. Few other details were provided.
The court filing, first reported by The Daily Record of Baltimore, was made in a federal lawsuit in which Baltimore officials sought and obtained a temporary restraining order allowing treated wastewater to continue being discharged through two pipelines on the former steel mill property.
A federal bankruptcy judge in Delaware approved a $72 million sale of the Sparrows Point steel mill in 2012 to liquidator Hilco Industrial and its partner, Environmental Liability Transfer.
