DETROIT (AP) — A probation violation charge has been dropped against a Detroit woman whose 12-year-old stepson was found in their basement after an 11-day police search.
Wayne County Circuit Judge Gregory Bill dismissed the charge against Monique Dillard-Bothuell due to a lack of evidence.
Dillard-Bothuell was ordered not to possess a gun after a 2013 weapons charge. Officers found a gun in the home she shares with her husband, Charlie Bothuell IV, during a search for his son, who was reported missing in mid-June.
Charlie Bothuell V was found June 25 and is now living with his mother.
The state said this week in a court filing that the boy was abused by his father and stepmother and forced to complete intense physical workouts.
No criminal charges have been filed.
