RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A popular pastime with wizards is headed to the suburbs of central Virginia.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1w7czqt ) reports that Henrico County has landed the US Quidditch Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, scheduled for November.
Quidditch is a competition based on the game depicted in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
The Henrico County version of the game borrows from rugby and dodgeball while using other elements of quidditch for the actual game.
Lacking flying brooms, participants instead clutch brooms between their legs as they run around.
The event will serve as a qualifier for the next quidditch World Cup, to be held in Rock Hill, S.C., in April.
