Fire, Sporting KC play to 1-1 tie

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Mike Magee scored in the 40th minute to give the Chicago Fire a 1-1 draw with Sporting Kansas City on Sunday.

Sporting failed to clear a loose ball in its own end and Chicago midfielder Alex collected it and found Magee on the left flank. Magee settled the pass and calmly beat goalkeeper Eric Kronberg for his fifth goal of the season.

Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson made two saves against C.J. Sapong in the 91st minute to preserve the draw.

In the 34th minute, Dom Dwyer took the ball from Patrick Yanni at the top of the box, deked Johnson with a head fake to the right scored with a left-foot shot to give Kansas City (7-5-5) the lead. The goal was Dywer’s 12th of the season, two behind New York’s Bradley Wright-Phillips for the MLS lead

Chicago is 2-4-10.
