Explosion sends manhole cover flying in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Police closed a street in downtown Richmond after an underground explosion sent a manhole cover flying into the air.

Media outlets report that the explosion occurred Wednesday night. No injuries were reported.

Dominion Power tells WWBT-TV (http://bit.ly/1z9Nv6t ) that a failed cable wire caused the explosion.

A section of Broad Street was closed while crews repaired the cable. The street reopened Thursday morning.

Police say the explosion affected four or five manhole covers but only one was blown off.
