WINCHESTER, Ind. (AP) — Brandon Jones won in his ARCA Racing Series debut Sunday, passing Mason Mitchell on the final turn at historic Winchester Speedway.
The 17-year-old Jones, from Atlanta, made contact with Mitchell on the pass.
“I drove it in as hard as I could and luckily it stuck,” said Jones, driving Turner Scott Motorsports’ No. 4 Chevrolet. “I kind of got into him, which I hated to do.”
The half-mile track is celebrating its 100th anniversary
“This is just awesome,” Jones said. “It’s a great track. It’s pretty crazy that the track has been around this long. I’m very happy to add my name to the great list of winners here.”
Mitchell held on to finish second.
“It was the last lap,” Mitchell said. “He did what he had to do. It’s al lright. It’s OK. We’ll go on to the next race and win that one.”
Justin Boston was third, followed by 59-year-old Ken Schrader and points leader Grant Enfinger.
“We had a bad vibration for a lot of laps, but nothing fell off and nothing broke,” said Schrader, the pole winner. “Then, that caution came out. We didn’t need that caution. I really wanted to add my name to the list of stock car winners here at Winchester.”
