Administrative law judge admits ethical violations

WASHINGTON (AP) — The District of Columbia’s former chief administrative law judge has admitted to ethics violations and agreed to pay a $20,000 fine.

The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/1rLl4HF ) reports Mary Oates Walker signed a settlement and admitted to the violations Tuesday, ending a trial before the city’s ethics board. As part of the settlement, Walker acknowledged four violations of city laws and regulations prohibiting the appearance of conflicts of interest and preferential treatment.

Walker’s attorney characterized her admissions as technical violations that had to do with the appearance of conflict of interest, not an actual conflict.

The violations have to do with Walker’s hiring a friend and business partner as her general counsel and steering an agency contract to a firm owned by the friend’s future husband.
