Storm damage closes western Md. Potomac bridge

OLDTOWN, Md. (AP) — Allegany County authorities say damage from a recent storm has closed a private toll bridge over the Potomac River between the western Maryland community of Oldtown and Green Spring, W.Va.

The Cumberland Times-News (http://bit.ly/UMsOxS ) reported Wednesday that the Oldtown Bridge was damaged by last week’s torrential downpours.

Allegany County Emergency Services Director Richard DeVore says the bridge damage will be part of a report filed with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. He says there’s hope for federal aid to cover some of the costs from the flooding.

The bridge is the only river crossing for about 15 miles in either direction.
