QUANTICO, Va. (AP) — A public meeting will be held later this month on a proposed plan to clean up contamination around a former heating plant fuel supply area at Marine Corps Base Quantico.
The meeting is set for June 25 at the Clubs at Quantico.
The Free Lance-Star (http://bit.ly/1tXPjtR ) reports that the site is a former concrete pad, sump and associated underground piping and loading area along the Potomac River. A former motor pool and flammable materials storage shed are also in the vicinity.
Environmental studies conducted by the Navy found shallow groundwater contaminated with volatile organic compounds.
The Navy’s preferred remediation alternative would use a combination of onsite bio-remediation, long-term monitoring of groundwater and land-use controls to prevent exposures.
